Jeremy Silva - Book Summaries and Project Management

This book taught me so much about hospitality. It was also enjoyable to read read the various stories about guest interactions and what happens behind the scenes of a fine dining restaurant. I recommend this book and it was one of my favorites this year.For years, I've been curating quotes about reading and books, stashing them away in my digital knowledge vault. Now that I have collected many favorites, I'm excited to share them with you on my blog. Organized into categories, these quotes offer inspiration, motivation, and a deeper appreciation for reading.This is my fourth time summarizing one of Malcolm Gladwell's books. His writing makes me think and helps me to see how the world works from a different perspective and in ways that are often counterintuitive. "The Tipping Point" by Malcolm Gladwell explores the concept of how small initial changes can lead to significant results, akin to an epidemic. Gladwell introduces key roles that certain individuals play in social epidemics: Connectors, who have a wide social network, Mavens, who have deep knowledge of a specific field, and Salesmen, who are persuasive in their interactions. He also examines the importance of the content "stickiness" and where and how the message is passed, underlining the power of context in spreading ideas. Wholeheartedness is hard, but not fully living our lives is much harder and much more dangerous.If you like biographies and the entertainment industry, I recommend reading, or listening to, Will by Will Smith. Will did the narration for the audiobook and he did an outstanding job. This is one of my favorite books that I've read in the last year. He shares his humanity and weaknesses as equally as his successes and strengths.Covert Cows is a well-rounded book about marketing, sales, hospitality, brand building, and creating company culture. While it focuses on the food and beverage industry, most of the lessons can be applied to businesses in other categories.This is a unique parenting book that I learned a lot from. It gave me a new mental model through which to view the abilities of children, and all people in general. Everyone is smart in different ways. This book does a good job of explaining this in a way that is easy to understand and apply to relationships. I highly recommend 8 Great Smarts for all parents.Lencioni thrusts his listeners into a day-long conversation between rival CEOs. Shay Davis is the CEO of Golden Gate Alarm, who, after just a year in his role, is beginning to worry about his job and is desperate to figure out how to turn things around. With nowhere else to turn, Shay receives some hard-to-swallow advice from the most unlikely and unwanted source - Liam Alcott, CEO of a more successful security company and his most hated opponent. ©2020 Patrick M. Lencioni (P)2020 Recorded BooksI love the unique perspective this book has on personal finance and investing. The way Morgan approaches the subject from a psychological perspective instead of analytical is refreshing. This is one of the best books I have read this year and I have recommended it to several friends.;
