With much of the worst of the pandemic behind us, I’ve begun visiting Bandung’s best cafes and coffee shops and also reviewing them.The format is different to what is was before. Now I’ll be writing shorter reviews followed by a couple of photos and updating this one post as the year goes on.So please bookmark this page and come back to it regularly as I’ll be updating it as I visit new places.32. Wheels Coffee MartadinataThe first outlet of Wheels was understated &amp; excellent. This outlet is totally different and not really to my taste. The coffee is still top notch &amp; reasonably priced, but a lot of what made the original so special has gone. Wifi is via a WhatsApp/email registration process that I didn’t try. A perfect place for arisan, but not for me. Kinokimi BackyardKinokimi are back again and this time their backyard concept is a real winner. It’s behind the big tyre stack on Jln Buah Batu and is full of cooling trees. The indoor/outdoor setting is one of the best in Bandung &amp; the coffee is great. SatulimaA coffee shop and clothes shop mix that does good coffee and has a decent nongkrong area out the back. The wifi is fast, but this isn’t really a place to work due to the type of seating used. SankyodaiA garden coffee shop attached to a guesthouse, it’s a peaceful setting perfect for nongkronging. I was disappointed with my coffee (luke warm &amp; lacking depth), but Susan enjoyed her charcoal drink. The wifi is pretty good &amp; there are electricity sockets around the place. A relaxing coffee spot!SankyodaiJalan Aria Jipang 6, BandungInstagram: @sankyodaicoffeeOpening Hours: 13:00 – 21:00, Fri 14:00 – 22:00, Sat &amp; Sun 08:00 – 22:00Wifi: 25down/11upMagic: Rp28.000No tax!28. By TabooI really don’t like the name of this place but I love everything else about it. The coffee is good and the space is wonderful — a full indoor/outdoor experience that is totally relaxing and full of fresh air. There are some good snacks here such as bao and plenty of places to set up a laptop. BodasThis is an expensive coffee by Bandung standards, but it’s also one of the better quality ones. Silky smooth milk, good temperature, nice cup — thoroughly enjoyable. Bodas is a large place with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, electricity sockets everywhere, decent wifi. Non coffee options are bang on and the desserts are good too. Long Steady DistanceA very good value coffee in a modern, stylish building. There’s a cycling theme here and because of that, there is a 25% surcharge for non-cyclists. A great deal for cyclists, a terrible deal for everyone else. Despite this, it’s a good place to work with plenty of sockets, very fast wifi and comfortable chairs. SlovinA wonderful tiny shop in an older part of town that still retains a lot of that old Bandung beauty. A peaceful outdoor area for about 10 people and a smaller indoor area. Drinks are unique with the iced coffee being more like a caramel milk and the mocktails sour and sweet at the same time. Absolutely delicious and worth a try if you’re looking for something a little bit different in Bandung. GandongA compact nongkrong spot in the backyard of Gudeg Yu Nap, this coffee shop does a lot right. Sexy cups, good coffee, speedy wifi and plenty of trees. This is a decent place to work or nongkrong and is especially enjoyable under the shade of the trees. Fuels CoffeeA cute little coffee shop on the bustling Jalan Sudirman. Coffee is very good, well-presented and served in Kaloka cups — yes! It’s little details such as this that can make the difference to a coffee shop and Fuels does this well. Jinji Slow BarAnother small coffee shop busting out good drinks and a good vibe. It’s not a place to come and work for sure, but it’s a hit nongkrong place, especially on Saturday nights. Hamsa CoffeeA tiny coffee shop that has a cute front area for nongkronging. The coffee is excellent and served in decent cups. They serve fluffy donuts here that can be heated up and coated in palm sugar — delicious! Sawo RontgenA smallish place in a quiet, suburban setting, this new version of Sawo is beautifully designed. The coffee is very good and there is a small selection of pastries to keep you going. Fabula Social SpaceDesigned as a space to nongkrong, it really does a great job of providing a good outdoor space for meeting up with friends. The wifi here is the fastest I’ve used in Bandung, so of course working here is going to be easy. The coffee is good and the cheesecake worth a try. Jiwan Coffee &amp; ThingsThe “&amp; Things” is a bit weird, but the cafe itself is beautifully designed with lots of wood and bamboo. There’s an eye for detail here and the Kaloka cups are just awesome. Coffee was very good, they offer oat milk, the wifi is fast and there are lots of electricity sockets. The only downside is the noise from Jalan Dago, but that won’t both most people. Hafa WarehouseA huge, sprawling coffee shop in one of the old Dutch warehouses on Jalan Gudang Selatan. Not really my style of place, but will suit larger groups and families. Despite a quiet cafe, it took 30 minutes to get my coffee. Wifi is fast and plenty of space to work. Kasumba CoffeeA new place in an area with lots of coffee shops. There’s a whole section dedicated to tea which is refreshing and the coffee here is good. Lots of places to work, plenty of sockets and the wifi is very fast. I wasn’t too impressed with the interior and there is quite a bit of work to do to get this to a good standard. The best bet is to take a seat out the front.Kasumba CoffeeJalan Bahureksa 1, BandungInstagram:@_kasumbaOpening Hours: 07:00 – 21:00Wifi: 63down/96upCappuccino: Rp28.000No tax!15. The KamasanA decent spot near the Saparua running track, this place does good coffee in stylish cups and good snacks. They participate in “pagi ngopi”, so the coffee + kaya bun for 20k is a steal. There’s plenty of outdoor seating and the wifi is fairly fast. Tri Tangtu Kopi Roasters (TTKR)A tiny little cafe specialising in manual brew coffee and bread. It’s an odd combination, but it works perfectly well here. The coffee is smooth and the bread soft and fluffy with a slight crisp on the outside. The courtyard area can only seat fewer than 10 people, so be prepared to wait for a seat here. Something a little bit different on the Bandung coffee scene and well worth a try.Tri Tangtu Kopi Roasters (TTKR)Jalan Buah Batu 129, BandungInstagram:@ttkrcoffeeOpening Hours: 07:00 – 15:00Wifi: 18down/9upManual brew: Rp20.000No tax!13. Kopi Mandja ProgoA stylish cafe with plenty of outdoor seating and coffee for Rp10.000 until 10am. The coffee was hot, strong and absolutely delicious and the topical matcha was awesome. There are plenty of places to work here and the wifi is fast. KumariEnjoyable coffee, good quality cakes, interesting non-coffee options and a fabulous interior make Kumari a winner on the Bandung cafe scene. The wifi is disappointingly slow, but despite that, this cafe is a very pleasant place to work. Staff here are very helpful. I especially love the indoor/outdoor feel of this place. Jati KopiA super impressive coffee shop with a menu that suits the Indonesian tongue. Coffee is excellent, love the cups, lontong sayur is worth coming for on its own. Lots of places to work, electricity sockets everywhere and super fast wifi. It’s a great work space, nongkrong spot and place to have a coffee and bite to eat. Kisah ManisA stylish cafe with loads of outdoor seating for those who smoke or are trying to avoid catching Covid. Coffee is good, the klepon drink is awesome and there are plenty of places to open a laptop. Electricity sockets everywhere and wifi is extremely fast. Kyomi SpaceVery popular with the young, artsy crowd, Kyomi Space is a cafe and art space set inside an old house in a gang off the main road. There’s a little bit of Japanese inspiration here and the open windows allow a fabulous breeze to blow through. Plenty of people open their laptops here and it’s a pleasant place to work. The coffee is good, but when we were there all cold drinks and most snacks were unavailable. Kanoko CoffeeA small air conditioned glass house with balcony and a raised outdoor area are what greet you at Kanoko. It’s beautifully designed and very relaxing. The coffee here is punchy and dark, perfect for an early morning pick-me-up. There are plenty of electricity sockets here and the wifi is fast. Combined with a chilled atmosphere, this is a top spot to come and open up a laptop. Eighteen CoffeeAn absolutely massive concrete space painted in bright white. On a sunny day, it’s too bright for me. The coffee was OK and there is a large cafe menu on offer. There are lots places to work here, but it’s not really that sort of place. KilogramAnother cafe with a beautiful shaded outdoor area. The coffee here is bang on and there’s an extensive food menu. The wifi wasn’t too fast when we tried it, but there are plenty of great seats to nongkrong in over the course of an hour or two. Didn’t see any sockets. HabitaasMore of a place to hang out with friends than a place to work, Habitaas impresses with its fantastic outdoor area and tasty food. The food and drinks are so good here that it’s worth going out of your way for. The menu is different from many in Bandung and the beef sandwich is a winner (good bread!). Moist and FriendsThe soft and fluffy Japanese pancakes here are the speciality and are worth coming for alone. The coffee is not the best in Bandung, but it’s definitely good enough if you’re in need of some caffeine. The wifi here is fast and you could easily spend a few hours here working. Two Cents (new shop)Hidden down a small gang, this popular cafe immediately impresses when it comes into full view. Another old building in Bandung tastefully transformed into a cafe with a lot of outdoor seating. It’s a far cry from the original Two Cents and thankfully the coffee is still good.
