Don’t fact check us on that one. In 1975, Jaws, not including it’s sequels, earned a total of approximately $477.9 million globally at the box office. The film grossed $283.6 million domestically, with its initial 1975 run becoming the first film to ever surpass $100 million in U.S. box office receipts. Internationally, it earned over $470 million. That’s 2,856,420,000 in today’s dollars. Yes, that’s over a billion dollars and still earning residuals.🚗⚡ Back to the Future trilogy (1985–1990) — was produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment and again distributed by Universal Pictures. The Back to the Future trilogy earned approximately $965.5 million at the worldwide box office. The first film grossed $388.8 million, the second made $331.9 million, and the third film earned $244.0 million globally. Roughly $2,897,224,163.57 had the Movies been released in 2025. Yes, that’s over a billion dollars and still earning residuals. Parallels in time.🎬 Both Movies have had very popular rides at the Universal Studios theme parks. The Jaws attraction is still running at the Universal Studios theme park in Japan (and incidentally uses MEPC’s “Shark Stopper” bumper in the ride.) In 2007, the Back to the Future ride ceased operations at the parks, and 2012 for the Jaws ride in the USA, but is rumored to be making a come back. Hollywood loves its sequels! Why 88? It just sounded cool — and looked great on a speedometer. Hey, it was the 80’s after all!🛹✨ Hoverboards Caused a Frenzy: After the film’s release, many fans believed hoverboards were real.
