Herman Saksono, PhD - Northeastern University
I’m an Assistant Professor at Northeastern University. I have a joint interdisciplinary appointment at the Bouvé College of Health Sciences and Khoury College of Computer Sciences. My research is in the fields of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Personal Health Informatics, and Digital Health Equity. In my research, I investigate how to design technologies that help address health disparities. I examine how health technologies can catalyze social interactions that help people to manage their health and wellbeing as collective efforts. In my research, I have been conducting the entire user-centered design process by designing, building, and evaluating novel health technologies in collaboration with community members.Health apps that I have designed, developed, and evaluated include Storywell, Go & Grow, and Spaceship Launch.Previously, I was a postdoctoral research fellow at Harvard University‘s Center of Research on Computation and Society. I completed my Ph.D. in Computer Science at Northeastern University, where I worked with Andrea G. Parker at the Wellness Technology Lab (now at Georgia Tech). In my postdoc, I worked with Krzsystof Gajos at the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. I received a Fulbright scholarship for my Computer Science Master’s study in 2012-2014.A complete list of publications can be viewed here. Note that in computer and information sciences, conferences are top-tier publishing venues, with selectivity and impact often exceeding that of journals.
