Our son would take the train from Davis to Santa Clara and we’d pick him up at the train station. Since we were going to be seeing him, he had a list of things for us to bring him such as his camping gear, laundry soap, a suitcase so he could use it to come home on winter break and plastic containers to store leftover food. One thing he also put on the list was Costco pumpkin pie. He doesn’t have a car nor a Costco membership, so he wouldn’t be able to get one himself. I suspect pies will be back (or still here) when he comes back for winter break, but he wanted pumpkin pie to bring back to school.Nov 25, 2025A number of years ago, I wrote about monitoring my energy usage with Home Assistant. At the time I was using a Rainforest Automation Eagle Energy device that connected to my SDGE smart meter. That device worked quite well for a long time, but in the last few years became unreliable. I bought a newer version of the device and it was less stable than what I already had, so I returned it and dealt with it.Nov 25, 2025A few months ago, I noticed that some of my IoT devices weren’t reliably connecting to my network or was quite slow. I rebooted the devices only to have them work for a little bit. I decided to reboot the access points (I have 3 in my house) and things got better for a little bit.Nov 6, 2025About 24 years ago, I started having symptoms of ulcerative colitis and then was diagnosed right after I got married. I won’t draw any conclusions about what caused me to develop the condition at that time. I’ve been keeping it under control, for the most part, primarily through medication. When I was diagnosed, there weren’t that many choices; now there seem to be a bunch.",
