Ina theannta sin, tá roinnt mhaith den cheantar suite i nGaeltacht an Eachréidh, agus tá ról lárnach ag an nGaeilge i saol na háite.Annaghdown is a truly historic place – from the ruins of the monastic settlement and cathedral beside Lough Corrib, to Cregg Mill and the ruins of St Cathal’s Church in the east of the parish, the area is filled with buildings and structures of historical and archaeological significance. This is complemented by a wide range of of folklore, together with a strong tradition of, and interest in, the Irish language, with the west part of the parish situated in Gaeltacht an Eachréidh.Events and ProjectsForthcoming events are listed on the right of this page. All events are free of charge and open to the public. Membership of the Society is open to all. We request an annual subscription of €10 to help with running costs. Some of our recent and current projects include:Recording of headstones in local cemeteries – completed for burials in Annaghdown Abbey, Corrandulla Cemetery, and Annaghdown Cemetery (old section);A study of each townland in the parish – see this page for links to each townland.We welcome correspondence through English or Irish – you can send us a message here. Several of our members have extensive genealogical knowledge relating to the Annaghdown area and are happy to be of assistance.Sign up to our mailing listNew members are always welcome to join the Society.
